Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems

MEP Fire - Kitchen Fire Suppression System

The third most likely cause of large fires. Accounting for 10% of all large loss fires.

Kitchen Fire Suppression should be a key component in any commercial kitchen or cooking area. The automatic fire extinguisher is designed to suit specific appliances and a large majority of the cooking equipment found in a typical kitchen: fryers, griddles, range tops, broilers, char-broilers and woks. Specific nozzles are selected and aimed at the hazard areas, making the best use of the liquid agent.

The kitchen fire suppression system uses a detection method usually installed in and around the cooking canopy, which melts when heated, releasing the wet chemical extinguishing agent through the discharge pipework. A manual release is installed along the exit route to allow earlier activation if needed. A pressure switch will also isolate the gas and electricity supplies when the system activates.

Kitchen systems are installed according to a bespoke design to suit the layout of the kitchen equipment.

What Will a Kitchen Fire Suppression System Look Like?

Typically, commercial kitchen fire suppression system will consist of four main components:

1.) Detection Line: There are a couple of detection methods available, but the KitchenGuard system uses state-of-the-art detection tube acting as Linear Detection rather then Point detection used by alternative products

2.) Discharge pipework: Once the detection tube activates, the wet chemical extinguishing agent is dispersed through stainless steel pipework and nozzles covering your appliances.

3.) Agent Storage Cylinder(s): The wet chemical agent is stored inside 8Ltr and 12Ltr tanks and then super-pressurised to 15 bar with nitrogen, which is used as the propellant.

4.) Manual Release: A manual release will be situated along the escape route for manual activation if a fire is sited beforehand.
