Commissioning Fire Protection Systems

Installing a fire protection system is not the end of the job. Before it can be relied upon, the system has to be proven to work exactly as designed, and that is what commissioning does. MEP commissions the systems we install and systems installed by others, methodically testing every part, confirming it performs to the design and standards, and providing the certification and documentation you need to demonstrate the system is fit for purpose.

What commissioning involves

Commissioning is a thorough, structured process. We test the detection, confirm the cause and effect so that the right outputs happen in the right order, check alarms, warning devices and interlocks, and verify agent quantities and system readiness. For gaseous systems this includes a room integrity test to confirm the enclosure will hold the agent. Everything is checked against the design and recorded, so nothing is left to assumption before the system is placed into service.

Certification and handover

A properly commissioned system comes with the paperwork to prove it. We provide commissioning certificates and the operating and maintenance documentation you need for compliance and for the building’s records, and we demonstrate the system to those who will be responsible for it. Commissioning to the relevant standards gives you and your insurers the assurance that the system will perform when it is needed.
