A deluge system is a high-capacity sprinkler system built for the most severe fire risks, where fire can spread extremely fast and needs to be hit hard and immediately over a wide area. Unlike standard sprinklers, a deluge system uses open heads with no heat-sensitive element, so when it operates every head discharges at once, drenching the whole protected area simultaneously. MEP designs, supplies and installs deluge fire suppression systems for high-hazard industrial and special-risk applications across the UK.
Because the heads are open, the pipework is dry and water is held back by a deluge valve. A separate detection system watches the risk, and when it senses fire it opens the deluge valve, sending water to every head at the same time. The result is an immediate, total application of water across the protected area, which is exactly what is needed for fast-developing fires involving flammable liquids or where fire could spread across a large surface in seconds.
Deluge systems protect high-hazard risks such as flammable liquid stores and process areas, transformers, aircraft hangars, chemical plant and conveyor systems, and they are often used to apply foam as well as water. They can also provide cooling to protect tanks or structures exposed to a nearby fire. We assess the hazard, design the detection and the water or foam delivery to suit the risk, and build the system to the relevant standards so it delivers the required protection the instant it is called upon.

A sprinkler system with open heads that all discharge at once when triggered by a separate detection system, covering the whole protected area immediately.
Standard sprinklers open individually as heat reaches them. A deluge system has open heads and floods the entire area simultaneously.
High-hazard risks such as flammable liquid stores, transformers, aircraft hangars, chemical plant and conveyors, and for cooling exposed structures.
Yes. Deluge systems are often used to deliver foam as well as water, which is important for flammable liquid fires.
A separate fire detection system. When it senses a fire it opens the deluge valve, sending water to every open head at once.
