Wet Pipe Sprinkler System

A wet pipe sprinkler system is the simplest and most common type of sprinkler installation, with the pipework permanently filled with water and ready to act the instant a sprinkler head opens. Because there is nothing to delay the flow, wet pipe systems respond fast and are extremely reliable, with very little that can go wrong. They are the standard choice for the great majority of heated buildings. MEP designs, supplies and installs wet pipe sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial and residential premises across the UK.

How a wet pipe system works

The entire pipe network is kept charged with water under pressure. When heat from a fire bursts the element in a sprinkler head, water discharges immediately from that head onto the fire below, with no valves to open or air to vent first. The flow of water also operates an alarm. Only the heads that reach their operating temperature discharge, so water is applied precisely where it is needed and the rest of the building stays dry.

Where wet pipe systems are used

Wet pipe systems suit any building that is kept above freezing, which covers most offices, shops, warehouses, factories, hotels and homes. Their simplicity makes them the most economical and dependable option where there is no risk of the water in the pipes freezing. Where parts of a building are unheated, such as a loading bay or car park, we can combine a wet pipe system with a dry pipe or other arrangement for those areas. We design to BS EN 12845 or BS 9251 as appropriate.
