Client: Thameside Fire
Site: Telehouse South Data Centre, London
Systems: Low Pressure Watermist | Main & Reserve Gas Extinguishing | Diverter Valve Systems
MEP Fire was appointed by Thameside Fire to undertake a substantial mechanical fire suppression installation at Telehouse South Data Centre. The project incorporated a combination of watermist and gaseous fire extinguishing systems protecting a wide range of critical data centre environments. These included data rooms, plant rooms, switch rooms, BMS rooms, battery rooms, UPS rooms, MV rooms, LV rooms and transformer rooms, requiring several different suppression arrangements to be coordinated across the development.

Our scope included the installation of pipework for a low-pressure watermist system protecting data rooms, together with two large main and reserve gas extinguishing systems incorporating diverter valve arrangements. The first centralised gas system comprised 58 x 140-litre cylinders serving ten separate protected rooms, including plant, switchgear, BMS, battery and UPS areas. A second main and reserve system incorporated 32 x 140-litre cylinders serving four rooms, including MV, LV and transformer environments. MEP Fire also installed two standalone gas extinguishing systems, each utilising 80-litre cylinders to provide dedicated protection to additional transformer rooms.
Across the project, more than 1,000 metres of suppression pipework was installed by MEP Fire, giving an indication of the overall scale of the mechanical package. The number of protected rooms, multiple suppression technologies and extensive distribution pipework required close coordination with the wider construction and M&E programme throughout the installation. The project demonstrates MEP Fire’s capability to undertake substantial specialist suppression packages within complex, mission-critical environments, including large centralised cylinder banks, selector and diverter arrangements, standalone systems and water-based suppression infrastructure as part of a coordinated data centre fit-out.
