IG-01 is an inert gas fire suppression agent made of 100 percent argon. Argon is a naturally occurring atmospheric gas, so IG-01 has zero ozone depletion potential, zero global warming potential and no atmospheric lifetime. It suppresses fire cleanly by lowering the oxygen concentration in a room, leaving no residue and posing no risk to electronics. IG-01 is pure argon. When discharged it reduces the oxygen level in the protected enclosure to a point that no longer supports combustion, extinguishing the fire while remaining safe for occupants over the required hold time. Argon is heavier than air, so IG-01 is particularly stable once discharged and resists rising out of the protected zone. It is stored as a compressed gas in high-pressure cylinders and delivered through fixed pipework and nozzles.
Because argon is completely inert and non-reactive, IG-01 is a good fit for sensitive electronics and for risks involving materials that could react with other agents. Typical applications include server and comms rooms, control rooms, laboratories and certain industrial processes. As with all inert systems, the cylinders sit remote from the protected space. We calculate agent quantities, design the distribution pipework, size pressure relief venting and verify the enclosure with room integrity testing.
